I read the HTML specification, so you don’t have to. I take what I learn and break it down into short chapters filled with video and code examples, which combine to make up the 150 days of HTML. Ensuring that people build accessible experiences for the web is a passion of mine. Using HTML effectively goes a long way toward building these accessible experiences.

The code example walkthroughs I will share as part of the newsletter will, where appropriate, explain why specific HTML elements are used. In cases where there is a need to enhance accessibility through using ARIA (accessible rich internet applications) attributes, I will explain the how and the why.

Improve a core skill often neglected and stand out from the crowd.

Who is Schalk?

I am Schalk Neethling, based in Pretoria, South Africa. I am a frontend engineer, a lifelong learner, a community manager, a part-time musician, a maker, a podcaster, and obsessed with open source.

I have a core belief in the opportunities the internet can offer to empower people and communities. When you combine the reach of the web with skills in engineering, design, and compassion for others, we can impact our own lives and those of others. One of my life goals is to build a community of curious people who share knowledge and experience to inspire each other to create their own opportunities using their own creativity, the web, and related technologies.
